Please Let Love Be Enough

People change as time progresses along. Each person ultimately hopes to change into a better person - a person who has learned from their past, a person who has their present life organized and together, a person who has their hopes and dreams before them. Yet as change occurs, so do the wants and needs of each person. And unfortunately, a person's wants and needs from their significant partner perhaps changes alongside. A person begins questioning what may be best for themself. Whether the past will continue to haunt their present, whether the other person is still what makes them happy, whether the other person is good for them, whether it is in the best interests to continue the relationship. The question does not lie in the matter of whether love still exists between the two in a relatioship. Because the absence of hurt and pain and tears would be proof that love was dead. Yet plenty of hurt and pain and tears are the fruit of endless hours of long distance phone conversations. So yes, there is still love.

I wish I believed in the ancient adage of "all you need is love." Otherwise I would not be scared of the possibility that you will someday in the near future decide that you are a better "you" without me. Scared to death that I will be left standing by the side of the road holding nothing but my broken heart in my hands.

I keep thinking that this could be our last Valentine's Day together.
